At Journey Coffee Co, everything we do begins and ends with people. Our story is rooted in a deep belief that authentic community, grounded in love and intentionality, can change lives. What began as a dream to simply create a space where people could feel welcomed, valued, and loved has grown into a movement—one that reaches across cities and communities with the warmth of a shared cup of coffee.
Journey Coffee Co was founded by Morne and Nicole Van Staden, a couple whose path to entrepreneurship began with uncertainty and faith. After relocating from the East Coast, led only by their sense of calling, the Van Stadens found themselves settling down in Vacaville, California. Swiftly, they met with the challenge of unemployment but were able to push through and persevere by focusing on their two passions: people and coffee. In the Autumn of 2013, Journey Coffee Co made their debut as a mobile coffee truck serving the people of Solano County. Quickly rising in popularity, they began building the foundations of a community that hungered for more than just great coffee—they longed for connection.
Over the next 10 years, Journey Coffee Co opened 6 cafes within the Greater Solano Area, reaching as far as the Napa Valley. During this time, Morne and Nicole also welcomed their 4 adoring children into the world and worked diligently to cultivate a strong and loyal community with which they could share their dream. The heart of Journey Coffee Co. is people and relationships, and each of our cafes is directed by a member of our leadership staff, who work tirelessly to spread Morne and Nicole’s vision within the community.
Though Journey has grown significantly since its humble beginnings, the heart of the mission remains unchanged. The Van Stadens and their team live by a set of core values captured in the acronym P.R.I.D.E.—People, Respect, Intentionality, Determination, and Environment. These values shape every cup of coffee served, every interaction with a guest, and every decision the company makes.
